Lytton BC - Labour Day River Festival Features Great Entertainment

The Lytton River Festival is a family-oriented celebration of two great rivers—the Thompson and Fraser—and their historic and present role in the colourful small town of Lytton .

The event begins on Friday, September 1 with an all day Farmer's Market. While not true entertainment in the classic sense, a great selection of locally grown fruit and produce is displayed by colourful local growers that love to chat and tell stories. This is local lore at it's best. Bring your camera.

Then at 7:00 pm on Friday the first band entertains the crowd. The musicians are “local” since they come from Spences Bridge , just a few kilometers up the Thompson River from Lytton.

Flat Busted is a vocal group of four ladies that make great harmonies together. They feature popular Rock ‘n Roll melodies that the whole family can dance to.

Following them is Jason Burnstick , a well known, award winning performer. Jason is from Cree nation in Alberta . The best way to describe his latest sounds is the strong influence of traditional Andean and South American music that he's integrated into the music from his roots.

Although the majority of his music is Latin based with powerful backbeats and a lavishing lead guitar, he stays true to his Cree roots because the powerful drum undertones in his band.

Saturday's performer's include the ever popular Table 23 Improv Group from Vancouver . Back by popular demand these guys know how to ham it up and get the kids and adults going. Local street theatre, a Town Crier, Chicken Poop Bingo (not your typical bingo hall event), and an open mike Talent Show are some of the afternoon entertainment.

Don Olds & the Hot Fiddlers from Hope BC will be putting on an afternoon foot-stompin' show. These guys are real hot and provide wonderful blue-grass music, perfect for a Saturday afternoon.

AT 7:30 pm Lytton's own Richie & the Fendermen get the street dance going. Wildly popular with locals and visitors alike, these guys love what they do and it shows.

Following them is a fire dance performance with three performers from Whistler. The surprise of the first Festival two years ago, their performances have mesmerized the crowd with their precision and daring. A dazzling display of fireworks ends their routine.

Gerald Charlie and the Black Owl Blues Band is the 2006 featured band. His first cd a few years ago won him "Best Blues Debut Recording" and "Best #1 Release" in Canada from Real Blues Magazine.

His grooving, kind of funky blues music is perfect for Gerald's smokin' guitar
technique and growling vocals. Gerald has been around the blues scene long enough to meet some of the blues great performers: BB King, James
Cotton, Long John Hunter, Eddy Clearwater,  Powder Blues, Bo Diddley to name a few.

The fun and entertainment continues on Sunday with a First Nations Pow Wow, a dip-netting and a kayaking demonstration on the Thompson River and a kids toy raft race.

Plan to be in Lytton this Labour Day. Believe it or not, all this entertainment is absolutely FREE!
